Recently, I found myself deep in conversation with a few different peopleâeach of us navigating our own pace in this whirlwind we call lifeâwhen a simple but powerful question came up:
“When was the last time you were bored?”
At first, we laughed. But then, silence.
In todayâs world, being âboredâ feels like a luxury, doesnât it? We’re often caught in the rat raceârushing from one task to the next, with endless to-do lists and little time carved out for hobbies, rest, or even just sitting in stillness. This question reminded me of something I hold dear in my own growth journey: John Maxwellâs Law of Reflection from The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
The Law of Reflection teaches that âlearning to pause allows growth to catch up with you.â
How beautiful is that? Growth doesnât always happen in motion. Sometimes, it takes root in the stillness.
đ The Power of Intentional Pauses
Weâre conditioned to believe that growth must be about hustleâpushing harder, doing more, checking off boxes. Iâve learned through personal experience and in my coaching practice that growth often deepens in the quiet momentsâin the space where reflection, rest, and awareness can settle in.
By intentionally pausing, we give ourselves permission to:
- Process our experiences
- Acknowledge our growth
- Course correct if needed
- Reconnect with our values and intentions
- Dream bigger and more authentically
đŒ My Own Journey with Stillness
Iâve had to learn this. It didnât come naturally. Like many, Iâve been swept up in seasons of hustleâuntil I realized I was missing the meaning beneath the movement.
By taking time to reflect on my core values, gathering my own support brigade, and surrounding myself with intentional reminders in my space (yesâsticky notes, mantras, and all!), Iâve learned to rise through lifeâs hard chapters. Pausing wasnât always easy, but the rewards have far outweighed the doubts and hesitations.
That internal growth? That self-trust and clarity? Thatâs what made the next steps in life easierâeven the ones that looked scary at first.
đ§ââïž Ways to Practice Intentional Reflection
Not sure where to begin? Here are a few accessible ways to create pause:
- Schedule white space in your calendarâeven just 15 minutesâto sit with your thoughts
- Journal prompts like âWhat have I learned about myself recently?â or âWhat does my inner voice need me to hear?â
- Go for a tech-free walk and allow your mind to wander
- Practice meditation or deep breathing, even briefly, to reconnect with your center
- Reflect weekly on your wins, challenges, and lessons
đ Let Growth Catch Up with You
You donât have to earn your rest. You donât have to be âonâ to be growing. Sometimes, pressing pause is the most powerful forward motion.
Growth is not only about what youâre doingâitâs also about who youâre becoming.
As a values-based, intentional life coach, Iâm here to help you carve out those pauses, tune into your inner compass, and move through life with more clarity, purpose, and peace. Letâs create a rhythm that honors your full selfânot just your productivity.
Letâs pause with purpose. And grow from there. đ±
