🦋 Where Stillness Speaks

What Are You Drowning Out by Staying Busy?

I did not expect clarity to meet me in the steam.

No phone. No distractions.

Just thick, quiet heat and the sound of my own breath.

At first, it felt like an escape.

A moment to unwind.

The longer I sat there, something shifted.

Because when there’s nothing left to do…

nothing left to check…

nothing left to respond to…

You are left with yourself.

I began to breathe.

Not casually, intentionally.

Bhramari pranayama. Bee Breath.

A soft inhale and then a steady, humming exhale.

At first, it was just internal; a quiet vibration in my chest, my throat, my mind.

But in that tiled, echoing space it did not stay small.

The sound expanded.

It wrapped around the room.

It came back to me fuller, louder, almost alive.

In that moment, I was not just practicing breathwork.

I was experiencing my own presence; amplified.

It made me wonder…

How often do we keep ourselves so busy that we never actually hear ourselves?

We fill our days with:

  • noise
  • conversations
  • responsibilities
  • distractions disguised as productivity

And we call it “full.” But is it?

Or is it a way to avoid what might surface in the quiet?

Here is what I felt in that space:

Not just calm, but clarity.

Not just stillness, but freedom.

In yoga, we talk about equanimity:

a steady, grounded presence regardless of what is happening around us.

What we do not always talk about is this:

Equanimity requires space.

Space to notice. Space to feel.

Space to hear the thoughts underneath the noise.

If we are honest, that can feel uncomfortable.

Because in the stillness, there are no distractions from:

  • the thoughts we have been avoiding
  • the decisions we have been postponing
  • the truth we have been quietly circling

Let me ask you this:

When was the last time you sat in stillness long enough to actually hear yourself?

Not fix. Not judge. Not rush past it.

Just listen.

What I was reminded of in the most unexpected, steamy, echo-filled way is this:

There is power in your presence.

A depth. A wisdom. A quiet knowing.

You will not hear it if you are constantly drowning it out.

That gentle, humming breath;

that tiny internal vibration;

it became something bigger because I gave it space.

I could not help but think:

What within you is waiting to expand,

if you would just get quiet long enough to let it?

Today, I invite you to try:

Pause.

Close your eyes.

Take a breath; maybe even a humming one.

Instead of reaching for the next distraction, stay.

You might be surprised by what has been waiting for you there all along!

Affirmation:

I trust the wisdom that meets me in stillness.

I give myself space to hear, to feel, and to expand.

If you take nothing else with you, let it be this:

You do not need more noise.

You do not need more doing.

You need moments!

Real, intentional moments where you allow yourself to simply be.

With presence,

With breath,

With intention,

Natalie 🦋
